Gregorio Muelas: “Dead Time”

Gregorio Muelas
Dead Time

Translated by Cameron Tallant

It is just for soulless people,

who watch in vain time pass by

as their dreams precede them

urged along by their dark shadows.

It is just for architects

who build towers of cards and sand

at the mercy of the wind and waves,

there is no refuge to temper

nor dam to contain

the natural course of the hours.

We are only judged by the admonitory time,

the vortex through which the hours,

and the days, the years and the ages

tumble towards the most complete abyss.

If all is dead time,

time ever-flourishing,

ever-wilting in each instant,

let’s match our beat to its fall,

its light to our shade,

its rhythm to our life.

tiempo reciennaciendo,

recienmuriendo a cada instante,

acompasemos nuestros latidos a su caída,

su luz a nuestra sombra,

su ritmo a nuestra vida.
