María Lago: “Origami”

María Lago
Origami

Translated by Rosie Baynham

I want to make origami out of your body

to mould your stubbornest corners

as you walk through the world’s streets;

to stroke the folds of your battles

conquering your skin with my fingers

To make you into a hundred different paper shapes

Is what I want, in my lap,

and to imagine that I am giving birth to a bird, a flower

a tree, or perhaps a boat

that would sail

through my veins

like a dumb wave about to break

I want, in short, for your unfettered soul

to play, in my hands, all of those roles

That life has reserved for you.

Origami (Origami) in Spanish

Quiero hacer origami de tu cuerpo,

moldear tus esquinas más tenaces

de los pasos que das, por las calles de este mundo ;
